Scilla Hess is an award winning pop and jazz influenced artist.
Originally from Switzerland, she worked on her career in Los Angeles for 8 years. She is fluent in several languages: English, Italian, German and French, as she has a European background and was born to an Italian father and a Swiss-German mother. Scilla is an experienced singer and performer with talents in performing and songwriting in various genres of music.
Her music is pop with retro jazz, soul and blues influences inspired by artists such as Amy Winehouse, Etta James and Lana Del Rey.
As an artist she was selected to perform in the national final of the
"Eurovision Song Contest" with her song "Playground" in 2019. She was already a national Eurovision finalist in 2010 and appeared in
TV shows such as "Switzerland's Got Talent." Her song "Playground" was voted the weekly number one Swiss song by the audience of the Swiss radio station RETE UNO. She has been the voice of "Music On Ice," the ice skating show featuring the world figure skating champions, for three years in 2019 and 2020, and she will be again in 2022.
Scilla also represented Switzerland through RSI (Italian TV and radio station) for the European Songbook project organized by BBC Arts, together with Conchita Wurst (winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014) who represented Austria. Scilla Hess performed live at the Edinburgh International Festival while the show was broadcast on BBC Arts. As a songwriter, she co-wrote "Let It Go"/Lascero', a duet performed by Nathaniel, the famous Australian artist, and Elhaida Dani, the winner of "The Voice Of Italy". The song reached more than 600K views on YouTube.
She also won several international and US awards for her song "Sometimes" and her song "Champagne and Sugar", which is featured in the award-winning movie "Muffin Top", now available on Netflix.
Her latest album "Scilla Hess" was released digitally on January 13, 2017. It features several collaborations with producer Chris Wonzer, former sound engineer for Linda Perry (4nonblondes). He has worked on over 70 major label releases (19 certified platinum) and has
recorded with Christina Aguilera, Pink, Macy Gray and many others.
She was one of the headliners at the internationally renowned "Blues To Bop" music festival in Switzerland, where artists such as B.B. King and Macy Gray have performed.
After a year of great success, in which several of her songs have been on heavy rotation on Swiss and European radios, radios in Switzerland and Europe, her second album is in the works, and these unreleased "babies" are already being received with enthusiasm by the industry.
Their latest single, "Long Forgotten Road," released Jan. 24, 2020, addresses current political and climate issues and has been embraced by some of the biggest climate movements, including Fridays For Future, Extinction Rebellion, Youth Strike 4Climate and Eco Action Families. The video clip for "Long Forgotten Road," featuring the activist children,
was created with additional support from 350.org and the Shawn Mendes Foundation and was released on September 18, 2020, in support of Global Climate Action Day on September 25.
